Alpha Kindergarten has been providing childcare in Peterborough since 1996 and has consistently been commended as 'Good' by Ofsted.
From babies to preschool, parents have been choosing our nursery for over 25 years and we are proud that so many parents join us after recommendations from friends and family.
We care for children from 6 weeks until it's time to go to school. We are open during the school holidays and are closed only on bank holidays and the week of Christmas.
We build strong relationships with families to help us provide the best possible care for your child.
The first five years of your child’s life will see them develop more quickly than at any other time. So we know how important it is that we work together to help your child progress at nursery and at home to reach their full potential. They will learn and play with their friends as they become happy, social and confident learners who are ready for school.
We know that your child is unique and will have their own interests, strengths and weaknesses. We don't believe that there is one-size-fits-all approach to childcare - instead, our staff will adapt based on your child and their development.
So your child will receive individual attention with personalised development plans as they start to grasp key skills through play with activities personalised around them. Working with parents, we will ensure that your child's individual needs are identified and met to provide the very best care.
Ofsted have commended our efforts to build strong relationships with families as we work with you to create a shared approach to your child's learning.
Each day, you can view photographs and observations of your children as they play and learn both in the nursery and using the secure Famly app on your computer or phone.
Each day, you will drop your child off knowing that they are in the hands of qualified professionals. All of our staff are qualified childcare specialists and hold additional qualifications such as paediatric first aid, child behaviour and child emotional development.
We have been caring for children for over 25 years and your child will benefit from an established nursery that local parents trust.
A large number of our staff have been with us for many years. This consistency will give you the peace of mind that your child is being cared for by a reliable team who know childcare inside and out.
Located on Fletton Avenue, our nursery is just minutes from Peterborough City Centre and provides convenient childcare for parents in Cardea, Stanground and Hampsted.
Arriving at the nursery in the morning, afternoon or evening is hassle free with our on-site car park and dedicated drop-off spaces.
Our light and spacious rooms give children the space to develop their skills as they learn more with their friends about the world. We have two secure outdoor areas and these give your child regular opportunities to learn and play outside.
Our in-house cook makes homemade food on site, using fresh and local ingredients where possible. All our menus are designed with nutrition and health in mind.
Your child is given the opportunity to try new and delicious foods with their friends as they learn about making healthy choices.
Keeping your child safe is our number one priority and we work hard to provide you with peace of mind every single day.
We recognise how important it is that you feel comfortable leaving your child in a secure environment. Ofsted has highlighted our arrangements for safeguarding as effective and have praised our team’s understanding of their responsibilities to care for your child.
In order to ensure that the nursery is secure, our entrance remains locked and only staff can give access to families and visitors. We build strong relationships with parents to ensure that the staff know who should be picking up each child and we have a password pick-up system in place if you want to arrange for someone unfamiliar to the nursery to collect them.
Ofsted have praised our arrangements for safeguarding as effective. All personal details are stored securely and can only be accessed by our staff.
We are confident that the procedures we have in place ensure that every child in our care will remain safe and secure as they learn and play. We are pleased that Ofsted has recognised this but we constantly review all our measures. Parents are welcome to view our policies and we build relationships with parents where they are encouraged to discuss any concerns they might have with the management team.
Our staff work together to ensure that your child can learn, play and grow in a safe way. We require all our team to have qualifications in safeguarding, food hygiene and paediatric first-aid and we run frequent ‘top up’ training sessions. As your would expect, all our staff have enhanced DBS checks carried out on them as standard.
Our staff are experienced in caring for children safely and we are proud of how many are longstanding members of the team, including some who have been with the nursery for more than a decade. To supplement this experience, every member of staff undergoes continuous training so that they are always up to date on the latest best practice in childcare and safety.
Ofsted have commended our efforts to identify and reduce hazards in the nursery and staff do continuous checks both indoors and outdoors, regularly checking all toys and equipment. Our large outdoor play areas are safe and secure, with staff always supervising children.
Good nutrition will give your child the best possible start in life.
Our three-weekly menus are changed seasonally so that your child is benefiting from a variety of fresh, delicious produce. Meal plans are prepared using the Eat Better, Do Better guidance to ensure that each meal supports your child’s development. Freshly cooked on-site by our own cook, all of our delicious meals use locally sourced produce where possible, without any salt, limiting sugar and incorporating at least five servings of fruit and vegetables each day.
We know how important the right food is for your child's health and development and we provide ourselves on the quality of our meals. All our meals are designed with nutrition in mind and we follow the Government's latest recommendations on diet in early years.
All our staff are trained in food hygiene and have experience in supporting children at meal times. Whilst supporting your child’s independence, they will encourage them to try new things and understand the benefit of making healthy options.
For younger children, we will always follow your home feeding routine and will cooperate with you fully during the weaning process when you feel your child is ready.
Babies moving onto solids are offered foods such as pureed vegetables and are gradually introduced to other flavours. They will eventually move onto modified versions of the main meal eaten by the older children that day.
We know that nursery aged children are much more likely to try different foods and this will change very quckly as they grow up. Treating meal times as a social occasion, children are more willing to try new foods and parents are often amazed at what their 'fussy eaters' will eat in the company of their peers.
Meal times are also an opportunity to develop your child's independence. Older children help to set the table and serve themselves, while supported and encouraged by staff.
Milk and healthy snacks are served mid-morning and mid-afternoon. To support their independence, children over 2 are able to select when they would like their snack. Snacks vary each day and include options like vegetable sticks, fruit or rice cakes.
We are always happy to cater for your child's dietary requirements. A vegetarian alternative is prepared each day alongside the main meal.
All of our staff follow our robust allergens policy and we work closely with parents to ensure that we are aware of your child's intolerances.
